Reverse Advent Calendar

help Meanwood families in need again this year

Meanwood’s Reverse Advent Calendar is back. We all have the opportunity again this year to help local families in need by filling up a ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ during the lead up to Christmas.

Instead of opening a traditional advent calendar window, you stick a coin on the calendar Reverse Advent Calendars for each day in December leading up to Christmas.

As soon as possible after Christmas, completed calendars can handed in at local collection points (see below) where it will be converted into supermarket food vouchers. These will be distributed to families in need to buy food.  Collecting money this year, rather than making food donations, allows families to buy fresh fruit and vegetables’.

It’s a fun thing for the whole family to do together to show that Christmas is not just about presents, parties and John Lewis adverts, but a chance to help Meanwood families in need at the time when they often struggle the most to put food on the table.  It also teaches children the importance of helping others less fortunate than themselves.  There’s even a specially designed calendar for them to colour in’.

The scheme proved very popular last year with over 150 families helping feed local families well into March.  The scheme is again sponsored by The Meanwood Valley Partnership in conjunction with Interact Church and Community Partnership.
